March 2021 Rover P5 Coupe restoration update

Regular readers will remember I have been stopping by to check out the Rover P5 coupe restoration. The updates show just how time consuming a proper restoration is. Those TV shows that try to do one in a weekend really are quite silly. There is a big difference in just slapping things together and doing the job properly.

May 2020 Rover P5 Coupe restoration update

I had this week off work, so I went by to see the Rover P5 restorations I have been following. For those who are not regular readers, I sold my old Rover P5 to a gentleman who is restoring three Rover P5 Coupes and I have been calling in to see the restorations every couple of months.

Rover P5 Coupe restoration update

I recently stopped by the workshop where a friend of mine is restoring three Rover P5 Coupes. Over the last couple of months there has been quite a lot of activity, although that is somewhat hard to see from the photos. Rover P5 restoration is quite time consuming – they are not simple cars. Rover P5 Coupe restoration

Yesterday I visited a friend’s workshop where he is restoring three Rover P5 Coupes. He is a real P5 enthusiast having owned a number of the models over the years. There are three cars under restoration, supported by two parts cars.

The first car under restoration is a 1964 MKIIA model. It was originally delivered 26/6/1964. Unusually for a car delivered in Australia, it is equipped with a manual transmission and overdrive. Most cars sold here came with the Borg Warner DG automatic gearbox. The current owner purchased the car in 1971.

2018 Rolls Royce Display Day

The Rolls Royce Owners Club run an annual display/picnic day at Historic Linnwood House. I’ve been a couple of times before and it is always a nice informal day. In some ways it is like a mini all British day. The highlight is obviously the Rolls Royce and Bentley cars. They also invite guest marques from other British brands like Rovers, Wolseley and so on. They also sometimes feature American luxury cars.

2018 British Car Show, Sydney

The 2018 British Car show was held on Sunday at the Kings School. This is probably the best car show of the year in Sydney. As usual all the British marques were there. Also as usual was the lovely display of cars. Overall it was a great day with excellent weather and interesting cars to see. Having said that, the Kings School made some changes this year that were not for the better.

This year the Jaguars were moved from the top paddock to the middle one. This pushed clubs like Rolls Royce and Daimler down to the bottom paddock. […]

British Motor Museum Reserve Collection

The British Motor Museum has more cars than they can display in their main collection. Unlike most museums, they open up their reserve collection to browse. The cars are obviously packed in close together to fit them all, so harder to see all the details and photograph. I still think its great that the museum opens this part of the collection to the public.

The Flynn Collection Auction

Friday and Saturday the Flynn collection was Auctioned off. There were over 130 running cars for sale on the friday night and then the Saturday morning consisted of the parts and some non-runners. Nearly all of them were Rovers.

There was a fair amount of interest right around Australia and the Auctioneers did a good job of generating excitement. Therefore the earlier and better lots sold for good prices and in my view probably above market. The later lots that were in poor condition or basically parts cars sold for next to nothing. The $230 Rover P5 MKII Coupe

The Flynn collection was auctioned off today and I ended up with a car. It is a 1965 Rover P5 MKII Coupe. That sounds great as Rover P5 Coupes are lovely cars. As it is a 1965 model, it is a a MKIIC, which many regard as the most desirable of the 6’s.

The Flynn Collection

On the 18th and 19th of November the entire collection of the late Dr Flynn will be auctioned in Canberra. There are around 160 cars for sale, most of them rover P4, P5 or P6 models. These cars represent the Rover marque at its very best and provide examples of most of the models offered during that period. Sadly, it would appear that the cars were not well kept and even the best of them is only in fair condition and many of them are basically parts cars.
