2018 Concours d’Elegance of America

I have not been back in Detroit since 2011 when I moved away after four years. As luck would have it, my first visit after seven years coincided with the date of the Concours d’Elegance of America. I only discovered this event in my last full year living in metro Detroit, and I was blown away. The 2010 event was (and remains) the best car show I have ever been to. Naturally I had to go again given the opportunity.

The Concours d’Elegance of America is one of the top events in the calendar in the USA. Perhaps not to […]

2018 French Car Show Sydney

My car show season normally kicks off with the French car show. The show is timed for Bastille day, so always occurs mid July. It was a lovely sunny day for the 2018 French Car Show, so the turnout was great. This was in contrast to 2016 (the last one I attended) where poor weather kept the numbers down.

I took the DS for the first time since 2014. It was looking great in its new paint job, the Rouge Massena really coming alive out in the sun. I’ve noticed that since DS values have more than doubled over the […]

National Motor Museum, Beaulieu

The National Motor Museum arose out of the collection of the previous Lord Montagu (3rd Baron Beaulieu). It is housed at the Montagu family estate at Beaulieu in the New Forest. Lord Montagu’s father was a keen early motoring enthusiast and his personal vehicles started out the collection.

Starting with the five original cars in the 1950’s the museum has expanded out to hundreds of cars, representing all parts of British Motoring history. Today the museum is run by a separate trust. The museum is probably best known for its racing cars and expensive collection of Edwardian vehicles.

As well […]

2010 Concours d’Elegance of America at Meadow Brook

In 2010 I attended the Concours d’Elegance of America, at Meadow Brook hall. This is still the best concours event I have ever attended. I was living in Detroit, Michigan at the time and the event was held in the Detroit suburbs. The Detroit location also meant that there were various concept cars and other rarities that may not be at other shows. The event is no longer held at Meadow Brook hall, but is still in the Detroit suburbs. I was able to visit again in 2018.

Some of the highlights for me included:

The matching pair of Bugatti […]

The Peterson Museum

I had the opportunity for a short visit to the Peterson Museum, after my flight out of Los Angeles was canceled. I had always wanted to go to see the museum after seeing a few of the cars featured on Jay Leno’s Garage (for example Steve McQueen’s XKSS).

The museum has two parts, the public exhibits over three floors and three basements with cars not in the current collection. You can do a tour of the basement for an extra charge, although for some reason photography is prohibited. Despite that, the tour is well worth it and you’ll see a […]
